Greg Boyle's book Tattoos on the Heart as a way to see all their textbook learning come together in real life stories. Fr. Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries, a gang intervention program in LA. This year, the 8th graders were given the special opportunity to meet Fr. Boyle when he spoke at Xavier High School. Students were moved by his and the homies' stories. Of course, they couldn't pass up the opportunity to get some signed books!
Thanks to the generosity of Poly Prep, BJP held our annual field day on May 4th, 2018. After spending the morning at BJP reflecting on goals for the upcoming camp season and creating a camp contract for themselves, students loaded the buses and headed to Poly. Once there, the student government utilized Poly's fields and organized relay races, dodgeball and kickball games, and tug-o-war. One of the female advisory groups beat everyone in tug-o-war this year, including against the staff! It was a day full of fun, teamwork, and motivation for our brothers and sisters.
