The 5th graders made a trip to the National Museum of Mathematics. After working diligently on their New York State Tests, the entire grade had a fun afternoon learning how math is all around them and how much fun math can be. Students ate a yummy lunch at Shake Shack before participating in a code breaking activity at the museum. Once they broke the code, they were free to explore the many hands-on exhibits the museum has to offer to help teach math concepts (see the picture of the mirror to help teach symmetry). Upon returning to school, one student commented, "I didn't know a museum could be so much fun!"
