Black History Legacy Event

On March 20th we celebrated a Black History Legacy Event at our school. Students, families, and guests gathered to see student-led performances. The program began with a reading from a poem near to our school. Amanda Gorman's "The Hill We Climb" is written along our staircase. Students engage with the piece daily as they enter our building. The poem reads "...when the day comes we step out of the shade aflame and unafraid, the new dawn blooms as we free it, for there is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it, if only we’re brave enough to be it." BJP’s culture and history is rich, abundant, and diverse. Our students are bold, bright, and talented. We are filled with pride for who we are and our heritage. We’re grateful we got to share this evening of dance, song, reflection, and spoken word with our families.

East Coast Nativity Basketball Tournament

Our students placed third in the first annual East Coast Nativity Basketball Tournament! Students from St. James school in Philadelphia, Covenant School in Bridgeport, and NYS schools St. Ignatius, and St. Martin de Porres traveled to The Bronx for a day of friendly competition. Thank you to Fordham Prep for hosting us, and welcoming our kids to such a fun-filled event. It was amazing to see our schools together and we’re so proud of all students for their dedication to their team. We also want to give a special shout-out to our STEP team for their work cheering on all teams at the tournament. Thank you to Coaches Doino and Ventura for your leadership! Teamwork truly does make the dream work! We were thrilled to see all the student-athletes show up for each other during the games.

Students of the Month

We are so proud of our Students of the Month for March 2025. Fortitude means to show courage in pain or adversity. Nyla, Marissa, Myles, and Paige were celebrated for their perseverance. We're officially in the second half of the school year and these students have consistently tackled new challenges head-on no matter how tough. They continue to hold their grad at grad principles at the center of their days and lift up their peers. Their dedication to their community has been unwavering and they have been brave and intentional in their actions and words.

Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, March 5th marked the first day of Lent. The BJP community came together to receive our Ashes. Lent is not just a period of repentance, but a chance for renewal. Students are reminded that fasts are a time of sincerity, reflection, and compassion. While faith can often be communal, faith is also personal. We gathered together to mark the beginning of the Lenten season. But, as we departed we were reminded that this is a time for introspection, spiritual growth, and meditation. Thank you to Fr. Brendan Gottschall, SJ for leading us in Mass.

Brooklyn Museum

One of our board members coordinated a trip to the Brooklyn Museum for our 7th-grade class. The curriculum focused on the history of Indigenous representation in American History. Our students analyzed pieces from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries either made by or depicting Native Americans. As our young scholars grow in their scholastic knowledge, opportunities such as museum visits allow them a broader perspective on our country's history through various art mediums.

Winter Activities Recap

Each season students have the opportunity to sign up for new sports and activities at our school. As we say goodbye to winter, we reflect on some of the indoor activities our students were able to participate in. This year that included art, cooking, choir, and piano lessons. We were able to see more of our students' creative sides as they honed in on their talents. This spring we'll introduce more outdoor activities such as kickball, STEP, and flag football.
