Camp Montmartre

Every summer, students attend Camp Montmartre, a three-week summer leadership academy at Fairfield University in Connecticut.
The residential program serves as an integral part of the BJP experience. For our graduates, some of their most impactful memories were made at Camp.
Program Goal
The goal of the program is to provide extra academic and enrichment support to every student. Camp provides 21 additional days to each school year. During these days, students learn English and math to avoid what is known in academia as “the summer slide.” Traditionally, the lack of educational programming during students’ summer has statistically led to a decline in skills and knowledge when they return to school in the fall. Our program helps maintain skill while ensuring increased preparedness.
Team and Skills Development
When students are not in school, they often participate in team building activities and non-academic skills development. On campus, they learn how to swim, partner with the university’s basketball team for a clinic, and visit other on-site resources including the art museum. Weekends featured field trips to the Connecticut Science Center, the Eli Whitney Museum, and, an eagerly anticipated tradition for our 8th graders, the Adventure Park ropes course.
Leadership and Formation
Finally, Camp Montmartre serves as a pivotal leadership and formation experience for students and alumni. Each year, the majority of our camp counselors and collegians are graduates of BJP. This serves as an opportunity for alumni to acquire leadership skills as they pass down lessons they learned during their time at camp. For our 7th and 8th graders, Camp serves as an opportunity to help younger students acclimate to the community. Group meals, sunday skits, and across grade pairings allow the students to know each other better and build community beyond the classroom.
