This year, Mrs. Cheryl Malcousu will be retiring from Brooklyn Jesuit Prep after 31 years of service in education and 13 years at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep. The impact Cheryl has had on countless students, teachers, and families is immeasurable, and her commitment to Jesuit education is second to none.

On April 10th, we gathered at the Penn Club of New York to announce and celebrate the high school decisions of our 8th graders and the scholarships they received.

On Wednesday, May 15th, we celebrated this milestone at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep’s 20th Anniversary Gala at the New York Athletic Club, honoring the USA East Province of the Society of Jesus.

Carlos Ventura is set to begin his second full school year as BJP’s Director of Admissions. A native New Yorker and graduate of the REACH Program, Regis High School, and Cornell University, Carlos has a passion for connecting with prospective students and their families. “BJP has been Brooklyn’s best-kept secret for too long. By visiting elementary schools and spreading awareness of our great school, my goal is to change this.”

This year will mark BJP's 20th Anniversary. BJP has left its mark on many over the last twenty years! Brooklyn Jesuit Prep has undergone many transformations over the last two decades, but its mission is the same.

Our summer leadership camp at Fairfield University exposes our students to many new experiences. This July, after a hiatus of a few years, swimming lessons returned as part of our recreation program.

In his recent book The Nativity Phenomenon: A Model that Works, Fr. Jack Podsiadlo, SJ, animates the history of Nativity schools like Brooklyn Jesuit Prep. He describes the Nativity environment as one where students are “accepted, respected, nurtured, and challenged.” This is what we are about at BJP.

On Wednesday, May 24th, 2023, the Brooklyn Jesuit Prep community gathered at the New York Athletic Club to celebrate our great school. Our annual Gala is a fantastic opportunity for our dedicated community members, faculty, staff, and students to come together and support the school we all love.

I am honored and excited to succeed Fr. Powell as the next President of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep. BJP has an important and inspiring mission. I can think of few goals more worthy than breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

After four years at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, I am saddened to say goodbye. Since arriving in the summer of 2019, BJP has been on the move. Quite literally, we have moved locations from Crown Heights to our newly renovated building in East Flatbush.

In July, BJP students will board our buses bound for Fairfield University in Connecticut for our annual Summer Leadership Academy, Camp Montmartre.

At camp this summer, BJP students walked proudly with the Fairfield community in a show of solidarity around Fairfield’s campus.

On May 11th, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep celebrated its Gala on a beautiful evening at the New York Athletic Club. This was the first gala since before the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2019, and it proved the most successful in the school’s history.
