I am honored and excited to succeed Fr. Powell as the next President of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep. BJP has an important and inspiring mission. I can think of few goals more worthy than breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

After four years at Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, I am saddened to say goodbye. Since arriving in the summer of 2019, BJP has been on the move. Quite literally, we have moved locations from Crown Heights to our newly renovated building in East Flatbush.

In July, BJP students will board our buses bound for Fairfield University in Connecticut for our annual Summer Leadership Academy, Camp Montmartre.

At camp this summer, BJP students walked proudly with the Fairfield community in a show of solidarity around Fairfield’s campus.

On May 11th, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep celebrated its Gala on a beautiful evening at the New York Athletic Club. This was the first gala since before the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2019, and it proved the most successful in the school’s history.

Jesuit scholastic Jake Braithwaite, SJ is descended from two highly intelligent women. Both Sally Braithwaite and Erica Roccario attended college, Rosemont College and the University of Paris, respectively. Thanks to their rich educational background, both were highly cultured women who passed intellectual curiosity onto their grandson.

BJP's 2021 Summer Leadership Academy adapted to the challenges posed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic with resounding success and fun!

Given the extreme trials of this past year, any victory won in the fight for normalcy should not be minimized. This year at BJP, students and faculty have worked to restore what we can of our normal routines--while remaining as safe as possible.

I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed your Easter holiday and have entered a joyous Easter season. This season represents the triumph of hope and love over cynicism and death. This year, I’ve been reflecting on the parallels between our society’s progress with COVID vaccinations and the Easter story. Placing myself in the disciples’ shoes, I imagine they felt a similar joy and possibility upon seeing that the stone had been moved from Christ’s tomb as I feel now.

Did you know BJP recently purchased enough Chromebooks to ensure a 1:1 pairing for our students? The move comes amid BJP's ongoing efforts to navigate the pandemic and provide cutting edge technology to its students.

In the beginning months of 2021, we’ve witnessed so many new beginnings. A new year. A new president. New breakthroughs in the fight against COVID-19. And while we’re not out of the woods yet, I think we all feel a sense of optimism that the end of the pandemic is in sight.

A number of years ago, I visited the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. It was a surreal experience for me, because everything was preserved.

Wishing you and your loved ones a very safe, warm, and Merry Christmas! This Christmas, as always, I’m thankful for your dedicated and generous support of BJP.

This time of year is one for ghouls, candy, and dressing up. For Catholics, it's also a time for us to remember those loved ones who have passed on and the ways they have impacted our lives.

We did it. We moved. Looking back, this summer was crazy. The deck was certainly stacked against us. A renovation, a move, and a pandemic? On top of the day-to-day of school life? Quite a combination. I’m grateful for the tremendous effort of everyone involved: from our building committee to our construction team to our staff and volunteers. The community made this possible. That said, it’s certainly something I’ll never do again.

The rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders spent the first four weeks of July at BJP's Camp Montmartre on the campus of Fairfield University.

We celebrated the class of 2019 and BJP's 14th commencement exercises. The 19 young men and women were offered $165,985 in scholarships and have accepted a total of $106,235.

Our BJP family celebrated Mass for Ascension Thursday and after Mass Father Rivera led our 8th-grade students through their Commitment Ceremony.
